PRICE Symphony No. 3
HOLST The Planets with Wellesley College Chorus
We're diving into our 101st season and making a splash! Opening night resounds with American Composer Florence Price's Symphony No. 3, which reflects the emotional complexity shared across the black American community during the turn of the 20th century. Price's music teems with struggle and tensions, yet blends with spiritual melodies in a cascade of passionate rhythms echoing folk tradition. The tumult rages on as we yield to the astrological forces of The Planets. Holst's sweeping suite of 7 movements promenades the planets - Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune -- and their associated influences on the human psyche. Toss amid the merry, magical, and mysterious confluence of emotions and prepare for an unforgettable conclusion where the imagination knows no difference between sound and silence.
