In a program that honors the living story of the Wampanoag Nation who live among us and upon whose land the town of Plymouth resides, the Phil performs two pieces of new music co-commissioned with the Cape Cod Symphony. Wampanoag historian and storyteller, Jonathan James Perry, narrates an orchestral tone poem inspired by legends of the Wampanoag Nation. In contrast, composer Alex Berko draws from the origins of The Mayflower Compact, the document that became the seeds of American democracy. Each piece invites a powerful reflection on the convergence of these two worlds.
